New Pordata Theme

Other Highlights

Transport is the latest theme of Pordata Europe.

Pordata Europe now has 12 themes and over 650 statistical tables, always based on official data.

All of us, as citizens, depend daily on transport, either directly or indirectly. Thus, this new theme represents a further contribution to a better knowledge of Portugal and the society in which we live, now with the added feature that allows for the comparison with what is happening in the other countries of the European Union.

The information for the 28 EU countries, has as sources the European Commission, Eurostat and the OECD. There are about 50 statistical tables organized into five major areas:

-Expenditure and Investment – includes data on maintenance expenses and investment in infrastructure for air, rail, maritime and road transport;

- Air Transport – includes data on airports and aircraft, personnel employed in airlines and airport enterprises, flights and domestic and international transport of passengers and cargo, and also on victims of accidents;

-Rail Transport - includes data on the extension of the railway lines, vehicles, domestic and international transportation of people and goods and also on accidents and victims;

- Maritime Transport - includes data on sea-going vessels, national and international transport of persons and goods;

- Road Transport – includes data on length of motorways, vehicles, blood alcohol concentration (BAC) and speed limits, maintenance expenses and investment in road infrastructure, accidents and victims.

The data have annual periodicity and mostly present series of at least 15 years, which extend to the present.

We would like to point out that, in Pordata, all the tables are accompanied by the respective metadata, which includes the concepts, calculation formulas for indicators and descriptions relevant to the understanding of the statistical data.
